Having no prospects, they took to traveling, in hopes of finding work. This was a dangerous life. To help each other out, they devised a system of signs and symbols. They would scratch out this code with coal, chalk or stone on buildings, trains, roads, fences or trees, sending messages to others who may come across them.
This art series incorporates this system in its design and themes. Mouse over the symbols on the right to have a look and click the symbol to open a larger image.
